So called black swan events, unexpected events with major geopolitical consequences, and hence supply chain consequences, have been disrupting many companies business models. These normally once a decade type events have recently arrived one after the other. Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, the temporary blocking of the Suez Canal, closure of Eastern seaboard Chinese ports, and now the war in Ukraine. All black swan events over the last two years.

All this has naturally put strong focus on supply chains, their robustness and reliability. Long supply chains, jurisdiction of supply chains, time zones of supply chains, languages of supply chains, credit worthiness of supply chains, are all questions being asked in procurement departments across the UK. It is not cheap if it is unreliable, quite the opposite, delays can cost a fortune in lost sales, and lost goodwill.
