MGS Precision supply tungsten tiled LBSRP modules to be installed in the new divertor of JET (Joint European Torus)

20 February 2011

MGS Precision have successfully completed an EFDA JET contract for supply of Tungsten tiled LBSRP modules to be installed in the new divertor of JET. This central part of the divertor on the bottom of the vessel will have to withstand the highest heat loads of any component in JET.

In operation, the Tungsten lamellae may reach temperatures of up to 2,200°C and they have therefore been individually shaped to maximise their power handling capabilities. In total there will be 48 of these modules in the complete divertor. This work is part of the currently ongoing shutdown to maintain and enhance Europe’s largest fusion device to answer questions raised in the fusion community.
