MGS Precision Limited first Graduates of LEAN programme

17 October 2018

MGS Precision Limited are delighted to recognise the first graduating cohort of its LEAN manufacturing initiative. After 12 months of hard work the first team have successfully graduated and received their Level 2 Certificates in Business Improvement techniques.

The LEAN programme developed jointly with LEAD (Lead Education and Development Ltd) involves all members of MGS undertaking training specifically targeted around business improvement techniques.

The course, run over 12 months, involves 10 days of classroom work where the teams undertake training in Standard Operating procedures, Skills Matrices, 5S workplace organisation, TAKT time Action planning and reporting along with functions skills in Maths and English. In addition, the teams undertake workplace projects where they research, review and improve current problems being experienced by the business.

The photograph shows Tom Green, Managing Director presenting the well-deserved certificates with Rachael Lockett, and Rob Rhodes, the LEAD trainer. Those receiving their awards are, Brian Jones, Steve Lavick, John Glenn, Tim Turner, Oliver Thomas, Ian Crook and Graham Bowers.

Tom Green, MGS Managing Director, has been personally championing this LEAN initiative and sees it as a fundamental building block for the future success of MGS.

“The concept of a LEAN business has been around for many years and the benefits of eliminating waste, focusing on quality and customer satisfaction are clear. However, for a business to remain successful over a long period, these processes and mind sets need to be engrained and not just the latest management idea. Consequently, the education of the entire workforce is key to its success.

This cohort represents the start of the MGS LEAN journey and with 2 more following quickly behind, I am confident that the LEAN approach will soon become a way of life in MGS”.
